Why Your Business Logo Is So Important !!!
August 18, 2011
So what is logo? Why is it so important? Which color to choose? There are a lot of questions related to this topic and I’ll try to answer some of them that I consider important.
Recently I got a logo design to do, but the interesting thing is that the client called me and tell me all the things about how should its logo look and didn’t give me a space to offer him a design, he didn’t let me to ask which color he like? I’ve tried to explain him what is LOGO and how should look like and that his idea is a poster design not a logo design. And at the end I accept the challenge, he said that he likes the logo to be black, to put some stars around the name and that was it, 2 hours work and I was done.
I’m glad that he liked it ( cuz it was his design ) but I realize that most of the people don’t know how much important is there logo and how it’s design affects to their business.
Well, let’s answer some of those important questions related to the importance of the logo design.
First, what is a Logo?
Ok, most of the designers know the answer of this question, but for those who don’t I would say a logo is a unique colored image that represents your business in every form and enables your potential customers and target market to remember and recognize you or your business.
This is what Wikipedia writes about what is a Logo:
“Logo is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition.”
What do You need to have in Your Logo?
It’s simple. Your logo can be the name of your business done in some creative way and color or can have your business name plus some creative image. Sometimes is better to have designed a creative image with the name of your business, so latter you can use it just the image for example for printing t-shirts, posters, using in campaigns… I think it’s more efficient because your customers can recognize you by the image and it’s not taking much of the space when using it for marketing.
How to choose the right Color for Your Logo and how that affects Your Business?
Color, it’s non-verbal communication and creates a physical and emotional reaction of the customers and every color has its own message. Color is extremely powerful. When I was creating my first logo I’ve tried all the combinations and I really didn’t know which to choose, I liked them all, I liked them everywhere and it was very difficult problem.
But after I’ve done a little research I’ve discovered the Color Theory, the color wheel and how to combine the colors, which type of colors are the most used and for which purpose. Here’s a snapshot from a website that I found useful.
So think about colors on your logo, it does make a difference and affects your business.
Do You need to hire a designer or You can create a logo on Your Own ?
This is something that I would spend the money on and hire a designer to create me a logo because I like my logo to be everything, to build trust to my customers and my business to be recognized. But there are more possibilities on the internet so you can create it on your own using some user friendly web tools, search or download free software, find some great images or already used designs of logos and cut them in Photoshop and much more. Or you can also call a designer as in my case, and tell him what to do and not giving him a space to tell you what is better for your logo design, but it’s a free world it’s your choice.
As a conclusion I just have to say that all you have to do is to define what is your business for, what services do you offer to your clients, so you can define what design and color will suite your business. Also a good strategy is to look at other successful business to see how they did it and what message their logo sends.
So do you find this article useful? Can you share some of your experience either choosing a logo or designing a logo? Also I’m open for suggestions, comments and if you need to add something more to this article it would be good to share it?
